ヨーロッパから大西洋を渡り、古巣のUC San Diegoにやってきました。

今回は世界一周航空券で旅費を浮かせて（そのほうが安い）、ついでにカリフォルニアで以前作った試料の抽出と、新たな試料作成をやってきました。共同研究者のDr. Ho氏と共に充填スクッテルダイトの試料を仕込みました。ひさしぶりの作業環境でしたが、なんとか勘を取り戻し、これまでに得たノウハウで新しいレシピをつくり、オーブンに入れて焼き上がるのは２週間後。美味しいクッキーが焼けるといいのですが。サンディエゴは相変わらず毎日良い天気で、さわやかな海風が吹く素敵な街でした。今回は週末も働くほどタイトなスケジュールでしたが、もっとフリーな時間あったらラホヤの海岸でイルカと一緒にサーフィンをしたかったです。

Crossing the Atlantic Ocean from Europe by air plane, I have been to UC San Diego, where I used to belong. In this trip, I use the “Around the World” air fare in order to save the travel expense (which is less expensive than regular fare), and use this opportunity to pick up research samples which I’ve once grew and perform another sample preparation in California. I have prepared some filled-skutterudites with my collaborator Dr. Pei-Chun Ho. It’s been a long time to use facilities at UCSD and everything takes me back to 2 years ago, but soon I’ve got a feel, and made a new recipe by our previous technical know-how, then we put the cookies in furnace and wait for 2 weeks to bake it until golden brown. I hope we will get yummy ones…
San Diego is the finest city as usual, blowing in a gentle sea breeze. Since I’ve been working even in the weekend on this business trip, I wish I could surf at La Jolla beach with dolphins, if I had a lot of free time.
