講演題目:Tuning the actinide magnet USb2

要旨:USb2 is a moderately heavy-electron compound with a relatively high antiferromagnetic ordering temperature of 205 K. We have studied how this magnetic state is modified under the extreme conditions of high pressure and high magnetic field. Under pressure, the antiferromagnetic order is destroyed and replaced by ferromagnetism at pressures greater than 10 GPa. This ferromagnetism is stable up to about 30 GPa, above which it is replaced by a non-Fermi liquid region exhibiting strong anomalous T-linear resistivity. Pulsed magnetic fields also destabilize the antiferromagnetism. Our study of magnetostriction and magnetization has identified a new tricritical point at 145K and 52T, which separates the paramagnetic phase from a new high-field phase, which is not yet fully understood. If time permits, I will also briefly discuss ongoing spectroscopic studies of the uranium f state.
